Career technical education (CTE)

Career Technical Education provides students with the opportunity to gain/practice the necessary skills and academics for a skilled trade position in the future.

Internships

Internship is a 6-10 hour per week independent study course for high school seniors. In  order to be considered for the Internship program of their choice, students will need to fulfill their Career Pathways prerequisite classes, have an attendance rate of at least 90 percent, and have a minimum grade point average of 2.0. The amount of high school credit is based on Internship time (i.e., one hour per day for one semester equals one-half credit). This non-paid time will be spent at a local business site where students are trained and supervised by one or more business site employees.

Middle College

“The purpose of the MATMC is to provide a gradual and supported transition from high school to college that ensures postsecondary success, to make college more affordable to students and families and to provide an incentive for students to pursue degrees that are in high demand and vital to the growth of our local and state economies.”

Personal Curriculum

The purpose of secondary education is to prepare students for life after high school. The Personal Curriculum (PC) is an option any student or family can explore as a way to modify certain graduation requirements and earn a diploma. The PC is a process to modify specific credit requirements and/or content expectations based on the individual learning needs of a student. It is designed to serve students who want to accelerate or go beyond the Michigan Merit Curriculum (MMC) requirements and students who need to individualize learning requirements to meet MMC requirements.Any modification to a student’s graduation requirements needs to be consistent with this purpose.A PC allows several flexible learning options, including:

For any student, earning additional credit in specific subject areas and counting these credits toward meeting the state requirements.
For students challenged with meeting Algebra II expectations, adjusting mathematics requirements.
For students with an IEP, allowing modifications of the MMC necessary to demonstrate proficiency.
For students transferring to a district from out of state or from a non-public school, modifications of requirements under limited conditions.
For more information go to the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) website. Parents with questions about PC should contact their student’s guidance counselor.
